Where is Kimito?
I am sure some of you have already typed Kimito in Google Maps, but for those who are still wondering here is a picture. The yellow area is Kimito Islands or Kemiönsaari as they say in Finnish.
Kemiö is the Finnish word for Kimito.
For some it might be confusing that I write the Swedish names for everything but our organisation is Swedishspeaking, it is not the same Swedish that they speak in Sweden, but very close. I might write more about this later as languages are a big interest of mine.
The closest large city is Åbo (Turku in Finnish), by car it is 55 minutes away. The capitol of Finland, Helsingfors (Helsinki in Finnish) is almost 2 hours away.
From Stockholm it is very convenient to come to Åbo by ferry www.vikingline.fi and drive yourself or hop on a bus to Kimito. There is a direct bus from the Åbo harbour to Kimito. And of course also back.
From Kapellskär in Sweden there is a ferry to Nådendal (Naantali in Finnish) and it is a bit longer to drive but still not long. https://www.finnlines.com/routes/naantali-kapellskar/.
If you are flying to Finland you will want to land on either Åbo (Turku) airport or Helsingfors-Vanda (Helsinki-Vantaa) airport. There are busses from Helsinki to Kimito so we will make it work.
As soon as you have recieved a spot at the knittingsymposium, you can book your travels. We will keep in contact with you all, to help you make your travelarrangements as smooth as possible.
